Some Things The Home Inspector Will Look For

If you are in need of a home inspection, you might find yourself wondering what it is that the home inspector will be looking at. To help you get a good idea of what will be checked out while the inspector is there, you will want to continue reading.

Safety Issues

There are a lot of things inside and outside of the home that could pose a danger to yourself and others. A qualified home inspector will look for such issues so they can be addressed. Some of the things that will be looked at because of safety concerns include outside steps and railings, the interior steps, and the availability of smoke detectors.

Rotten Or Termite Infested Wood

You want to make sure that a home you are buying, living in currently, or thinking of selling is not unstable due to rotten or termite-infested wood. Unless you actually see the termites yourself, you will need an inspector to check out everything for you. They know how to inspect the wood and they have the tools needed to do it. Also, if there is wood rot or a termite infestation, they should be able to tell you how serious of a problem it is.

The Electrical System

The inspector will check to make sure that the electrical panel box is properly set up, that there is modern wiring throughout the home, and that there are the appropriate GFI plugs near water sources, such as in the kitchen or bathroom. This is important because their notes will let you know of any existing dangers you need to be aware of so they can be immediately fixed. Electrical issues could lead to a house fire, which could cause you to lose your home and the belongings inside it.

Now that you have read through all of that, you should have a better idea of what needs to be in the best possible shape before the inspector arrives. This will allow you the chance to make changes or repairs to anything that might not look so great in the eyes of a professional home inspector. If you are purchasing a house and asking for an inspection, you now have a better idea of what will be inspected so you will know that you are safe to go through with the purchase as is or if you are going to want to ask for a reduced price.
